Reading, Pa. (April 17, 2010) – Alvernia University (20-8, 6-4 Comm.) pounded out 14 hits in their first game this afternoon on their way to sweeping Arcadia University (12-16, 3-7 Comm.) in Commonwealth Conference action. Every Crusader in the line-up had a hit in the first game of the day for a 7-3 win, while starter Michelle Jensen (Holland, NJ/Delaware Valley) allowed just one run in the second game to give Alvernia the 4-1 win.

Alvernia's bats got started right away in the first game with back-to-back singles from Janelle Lynch (Macungie, Pa./Brandywine) and # Miranda Peto# (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville). Rhiannon Sorrentino (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) followed with a single of her own to score Lynch, and a ground-out plated Peto. Another RBI-single from Dina Chiappelli (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) gave Alvernia their third run of the inning, and a fielder's choice plated the fourth.

The Crusaders tagged on another run in the second inning to take the early 5-0 lead thanks to a triple from Peto and a sacrifice fly from Sorrentino. The Knights battled back with three runs in the fourth inning off of two walks and two doubles, but Alvernia answered right away with two more of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning for the 7-3 lead that would hold steady through seven innings.

In the second game of the day Alvernia again put up a four-run inning, this time in the third. Freshman Danielle Kitchen (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) got things started with a walk and after a sacrifice bunt; Lynch, Peto and Sorrentino again went for three hits in a row highlighted by a two-RBI triple from Sorrentino who eventually scored on a passed ball.

Starter Jensen was tight through seven innings allowing just five hits and one run to earn her ninth win of the season.
