Clermont, Fl. (Mar. 8, 2011) – The Crusaders (4-0) rolled on today in their second day of play at the NTC Games with two more wins.  They opened with a tight 3-1 win over John Carroll University (2-1) thanks to a three-run first inning and a combined gem from freshman Jennifer Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton East) and senior Michelle Jensen (Holland, NJ/Delaware Valley).  In game two Alvernia pounded out 15 hits for the 11-0 five inning win.

Alvernia opened the bottom half of the first inning against John Carroll with a double from Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) and freshman Samantha Penk earned her way aboard with a walk.  After two strike outs and a passed ball the Crusaders had runners on second and third with two outs.  Sophomore Danielle Kitchen (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) then connected for a two-strike, two-RBI double to the fence to give the Crusaders the early 2-0 lead.  Junior Jacklyn Torres (Colonia, NJ/Colonia) followed with a single to score Kitchen and put Alvernia up by three.

The Petrilla/Jensen combination on the mound held John Carroll scoreless through six innings until they connected for a solo shot in the top of the seventh inning, their lone run of the game.  Jensen retired the next three batters for the 3-1 victory.

In the second game of the day the Crusaders posted 15 hits and 11 runs through five innings with eight of Alvernia's starting nine earning a hit.  Alvernia took the quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first with three two-out singles and a two-RBI error.  The second inning saw them put up five more and they added two in the third and one in the fourth for 11.
