Michelle Jensen (Holland, NJ/Delaware Valley) shut-out Eastern (15-12) and allowed just four hits through six innings as Alvernia (16-6) won game two this afternoon in non-conference action at Alvernia. The Crusaders took the second game 7-0 after falling in game one 0-8.
In game one the Eagles posted three runs in the first inning with a sacrific fly and a two-run homerun. They added another run in the third inning on a walk, wild pitch and RBI-single. They put the game out of reach with two runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth inning to enact the eight-run rule. Alvernia couldn't muster much action at the plate, scattering seven non-threatening hits.
In the second game of the day the Crusaders put up six runs in the fourth inning to take the 6-0 lead. Sophomore outfielder
Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) led-off the inning with a double, and after a walk and Eagle error, freshman
LIsa Seidler (Feasterville, Pa./Archbishop Wood) lined an RBI-single through the left side to plate Peto.
Danielle Kitchen (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) followed with an RBI-single of her own and another Eagle error gave Alvernia the 3-0 lead. Catcher
Diane Lightner (Gaithersburg, Md./Acad. Holy Cross) then lined a double off the right field fence to plate two more runs, and would eventually score on a fielder's choice.
Alvernia added another run in the fifth inning when
Rhiannon Sorrentino (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) stroked a one-out single and scored on an RBI-single from
Dina Chiappelli (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg)
Seidler was 4-for-5 on the day with a run scored and an RBI and
Katie Manowski (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) was 2-for-4.
The Crusaders will return to action when they travel to Albright tomorrow afternoon for a 3:00pm Commonwealth Conference doubleheader. They will then travel to Lycoming for a Friday morning 11:00 doubleheader, and return home to host Widener on Monday at 3:00pm.
