Williamsport, Pa. (Apr. 22, 2011)
- Lycoming (12-14, 6-6 Comm.) connected for five home runs in a Commonwealth Conference softball doubleheader sweep of Alvernia (17-9, 3-7 Comm.) at the Shangraw Athletic Complex this afternoon.  The Warriors walked off with an 8-7 win in game one before out-muscling Alvernia in the second game, 11-9.

Alvernia took the 7-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning of the first game after a four-run sixth inning, but the Warriors used their power to walk-off with the win, as freshman Abbi Miller blasted a one-out triple to right-center that drove in the winning run.

In the second game, the Warriors blasted three home runs, accounting for six of its 11 runs and held off a late Crusader rally to finish off the sweep with an 11-9 win.  After Alvernia scored two first-inning runs, the Warriors responded with seven runs in the next three innings.  The Crusaders fought back into the game with a three-run fifth inning to make it 7-5, but the Warriors again responded with power. Sophomore Allyson Marianelli posted a single down the line and a walk followed before Lansberry reached on a bunt single.  After an illegal pitch scored Marianelli, Lycoming drove a three-run homer down the left-field line.

Alvernia fought back, scoring four runs thanks in part to a three-run homer from Samantha Penk (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) in the sixth inning, but it wasnt enough as the Warriors fought off a seventh-inning rally to preserve the 11-9 win.

Penk was 5-for-9 on the day with five RBIs and three runs scored, Katie Manowski (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) was 4-for-7 with an RBI and three runs, while Rhiannon Sorrentino (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) was 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored.

The Crusaders host Widener University Monday afternoon at 3:00pm in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader.
