GAME ONE (Box Score)
GAME TWO (Box Score)

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 25, 2011) - The Crusader pitching trio of Michelle Jensen (Holland, NJ/Delaware Valley), Jennifer Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton East) and Deanna Dungee (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) held Widener University (14-18, 4-8 Comm.) to just one run through 14 innings as Alvernia (19-9, 5-7 Comm.) swept the Pride 5-1 and 2-0 this afternoon in Commonwealth Conference action at Angelica Park.

Alvernia went to work right away in game one, plating two runs in thr bottom of the first inning.  Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) led off the inning with a double and after a walk and a Pride error both Lisa Seidler (Feasterville, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Danielle Kitchen (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) connected for RBI-hits to give Alvernia the early 2-0 lead.  They added another run in the second inning thanks to an RBI-triple from Katie Manowski (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) that scored Stacey Armacost (Glenville, Pa./South Western) who had reached with a two-out single.

The Pride got a run back in the top of the fifth inning after a lead-off single came around to score on an RBI-single from Kristina Ostaszewski.  Alvernia answered with two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off a two-RBI single from Armacost.

Jensen was dominant on the mound in game one, allowing just two Pride hits and one run, all in the fifth inning.

In game two, Alvernia got all the offense they would need in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Rhiannon Sorrentino (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and after a pop-out Kitchen was hit by a pitch to put runners on first a second.  Starting pitcher Petrilla followed with a rope up the middle to plate Sorrentino, and catcher Diane Lightner (Gaithersburg, Md./Holy Cross Acad.) followed with a single to left to score Kitchen and give Alvernia the 2-0 lead that would stand through seven innings.

Petrilla was solid in the circle through five innings, allowing no runs and scattering five hits.  Dungee served her middle relief role well inducing an inning-ending double play in the fifth, while Jensen worked Alvernia out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning.

The Crusaders will travel to PSU-Berks tomorrow for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00pm.
