Reading, Pa. (Apr. 26, 2011) - Alvernia (21-9) took two games at PSU-Berks (16-17) this afternoon in non-conference action by scores of 13-3 and 16-0. Senior
Michelle Jensen (Holland, NJ/Delaware Valley) earned her ninth win of the season in the first game, while freshman
Jennifer Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton East) threw a complete game two to improve to 6-3.
The Crusaders jumped on the Lions right away with four runs in the first inning of game one.
Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) walked to start the inning and
Samantha Penk (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown),
Alicia Buchman (Alburtis, Pa./Emmaus),
Danielle Kitchen (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) and
Stacey Armacost (Glenville, Pa./South Western) all followed with RBI-singles. Alvernia added another run in the second on an RBI-triple from Penk and an RBI-double from Armacost brough in another in the fifth. The sixth and seventh innings saw the Crusaders tack on seven more insurance runs highlighted by a bases-loaded double from Penk.
Berks managed a run in the second and two in the fifth, but that would be it is reliever
Deanna Dungee (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) shut down the Lions through six and seven to presever the 13-3 win.
Game two was all Alvernia as they plated four runs in the first inning, six in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth for the 16-run total. In the circle Petrilla held Berks to just two hits through five innings with no runner reaching third base.
Peto was 5-for-7 with seven runs scored and two RBIs, Penk was 5-for-9 with five runs scored and four RBIs and Armacost was 4-for-8 with two doubles and four RBIs.
The Crusader return to action on Thurs. Apr. 28th when they host Ursinus College for a 3:00pm non-conference double header.
