Reading, Pa. (Sept. 10, 2011) - Alvernia University (1-0) won five out of six singles matches to erase an early deficit and earn a 6-3 win over Cabrini College (0-1) Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's tennis action at Angelica Park.
Nate Bauer (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) and
Dan Minnich teamed to earn the Crusaders' only point in doubles play then both won in convincing fashion in singles.
"I was very pleased to see our strength in singles capture the momentum of the match," said Alvernia head coach
Larry Zerbe. "It was a great doubles win for our ones. This match was their time to lead."
After an 8-2 win in doubles, Bauer and Minnich lost just five total games combined in their straight set singles wins. 6-1, 6-1 for Bauer at No. 1 and 6-1, 6-2 for Minnich at No. 2. Will Gerber (Baltimore, Pa./Archbishop Curley), Zach Marsar (Sayville, N.Y./Connetquot), and
Ryan Ludwig (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) all earned straight set singles wins as well.
