Reinoehl Scores First Of The Season

BOX SCORE

Erie, Pa. (Nov. 10, 2012) - Sophomore defender Tyler Reinoehl (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) picked a brilliant time for his first career goal netting the game-winner as fifth-seeded Alvernia University (13-7-3) defeated #1 PSU-Behrend (17-4-0) 2-0 Saturday afternoon in semifinal action of the ECAC South Region Men's Soccer Championship at Behrend.

The Crusaders advance to the ECAC Final for the first time in their third appearance in the tournament.  They will face the winner of the other semifinal between #3 Lebanon Valley and #7 Marywood.  The final will be played Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Behrend.

Reinoehl scored the game-winner in the 58th minute assisted by sophomore Josh Wollaston (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy).

"We worked a quick restart to the outside of the wall," said head coach Casey Moore after the win, "and Josh Wollaston served a great ball to the back post and Tyler just went after it and made a play.  Tyler has been solid for us all year.  He scored the game winning goal and defensively was a big part of our shutout today."

Alvernia keeper Ben Diller (Etters, Pa./Red Land) needed three of his six saves between Reinoehl's goal and the time Ricky Bruno (Reading, Pa./Exeter) scored an insurance goal in the 85th minute.  Bruno's goal was assisted by sophomore Joe Raymond (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) who scored the OT game-winner in Thursday's quarterfinal win over PSU-Abington.

"Diller played very well to preserve the shutout," said Moore, "and Travis Foster (Bernville, Pa./Tulpehocken) played very well shutting down their conference player of the year."

The game was scoreless for the first half with both teams playing about even.  Both had three shots with Diller needing just one save to keep the Lions at bay.  He needed five more in the second half to record his ninth shutout of the year and 21st of his career--the current Alvernia record.

"We played really well today and we put together a full game," concluded Moore.  "We were able to withstand their early pressure and we worke the ball around nicely.  All year we have talked about winning a championship and we have put ourselves in a good position to win one.  The boys are excited and they are working hard.  We hope to end our seaosn with a championship."

#5 Alvernia 2, #1 PSU-Behrend 0
