Reading, Pa. (Mar. 13, 2012) - Alvernia University (4-1) opened the spring portion of the schedule with an 8-1 victory over Immaculata University (0-2) Tuesday afternoon in non-conference men's tennis action at Angelica Park.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match after sweeping through the doubles competition.  The #1 doubles team of Nate Bauer (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) and Dan Minnich (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) used a precise serve and return game to stone their opponent 8-0.  Kevin Brandt (Sodus, N.Y./Sodus) and Zach Marsar (Sayville, N.Y./Connetquot) were also strong in the serve game en route to an 8-5 win at #2 doubles, and Will Gerber (Baltimore, Md./Archbishopy Curley) and Ryan Ludwig (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) were consistent at #3 for an 8-2 win.

Five of the six players then closed out their singles matches in stright sets.  Three of the five, Bauer (#1), Minnich (#2), and Ludwig (#6) included a 6-0 set in their singles win.  Immaculata's TJ Klinger earned the only point of the day for the Mighty Macs with a three-set win at #3 singles.

The Crusaders continue the spring schedule when they host Ursinus College on Saturday.
