Reading, Pa. (Mar. 27, 2012) - Alvernia University (5-2) won a pair of tightly-contested doubles matches to sweep three doubles points then took five of six singles matches for an 8-1 win over Misericordia University (0-4) Tuesday afternoon in non-conference men's tennis action at Angelica Park.

Nate Bauer (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) and Dan Minnich (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) combined to take an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles and Kevin Brandt (Sodus, N.Y./Sodus Central) and Zach Marsar (Sayville, N.Y./Connetquot) won by the same count at No. 2.  Will Gerber (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) and Kerwin Ortega (Totawa, N.J.) had an eaiser go of it at No. 3 doubles winning 8-0.

Misericordia's Fred Hockenbury won the only point of the day for the Cougars with a 4-1 decison over Bauer at No. 1 singles.  The Crusaders prevailed at No. 2-5 in straight sets only dropping eight games in those matches and Ortega won a third-set in a tie-breaker over A.J. Grasso.

The Crusaders are back in action this Saturday at Messiah College.
