Orlando, Fl. (Mar. 8, 2012) - The Crusaders (6-2) fell to Meredith College (10-6) by scores of 0-4 and 2-6 this morning in their final games at the Disney Spring Training Tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. Freshman pitcher Brittanie Wolfe held the Avenging Angels scoreless through her seven innings of work over two games, but the Crusaders managed just five hits through both games to suffer the sweep.

In the opening game, Meredith plated their first run in the second inning off a Crusader error, and added three more in the top of the third off of four hits and a hit batter. That was all the scoring they needed as Alvernia couldn't push a runner past second base all game.

Game two started in Alvernia's favor as Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./ Phoenixville) led off the game with a triple to right center and scored on a passed ball to give Alvernia the early 1-0 lead, but Meredith answered quickly with two runs in the bottom of the first. Meredith tagged on another three runs in the second, before Alvernia answered with one run in the top of the third to bring the score to 5-2. Meredith added some insurance in the bottom of the third inning for the 6-2 lead that would stick through seven innings.

Wolfe threw seven scoreless innings over the two games, allowing just three hits.

The Crusaders return to action with heir home opener against Immaculata Tues. March 13 at 3pm.
