Alvernia Drops Two Walk-off Wins To The Dutchmen

Crusaders Fall 3-2 In 9 Innings, 5-4 In Game Two

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 Annville, Pa. (April 14, 2012) - The Dutchmen from Lebanon Valley (20-10, 7-3 Comm.) stole two games from Alvernia (24-4, 6-2 Comm.) this afternoon in Commonwealth Conference action.  LVC took game one 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning, and then took game two 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning.
 
In the first game of the day, Alvernia took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Jacklyn Torres (Colonia, NJ/ Colonia) that plated Felicia McKenna who led off the inning with a single.  They added another in the fifth for the 2-0 lead off an RBI-single from Shannon Grim (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) to plate Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./ Phoenixville).  The Dutchmen tied it up  with two runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to four singles.  After a scoreless seven and eight on both sides, LVC plated the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth with three singles.  Starting pitcher Brittanie Wolfe (Pine Grove, Pa./ Pine Grove) took the hard loss, her first of the season.
 
The Dutchmen jumped ahead in game two with three runs in the bottom of the second thanks to five hits and one Crusader error.  Alvernia got one back in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly from Danielle Kitchen (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley).  With the score still 3-1 in the sixth inning, Torres and McKenna connected for back-to-back singles to start the inning, and Diane Lightner (Gaithersburg, Md./Acad. of the Holy Cross) hit the first pitch she saw over the left field fence to quickly turn the game around and give Alvernia the 4-3 lead.  LVC answered quickly with a homer of their own to tie the game at four in the bottom of the sixth, and plated the game-winner on a bases-loaded hit batter.
 
McKenna and Samantha Penk (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) were both 3-for-8 on the day.  Deanna Dungee (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) was 3-for-4, and Lightner and Kitchen were both 2-for-4 in game two.
 
Alvernia will travel to Neumann for a non-conference doubleheader on Tues. April 16 beginning at 3:00 pm.
