Men's Soccer Helps Turn A Dream Into Reality

Reading, Pa. (March 31, 2012) - The Alvernia University Men's Soccer team shared their weekend with members of Habitat for Humanity in Reading as they assisted with a house restoration project.  The Crusaders took time out of their weekend to make a family's dream of owning their own home a reality.  Through teamwork, the Crusaders built a lasting memory for the family and themselves.

"Volunteering creates a unique sense of pride, self-achievement and togetherness.  This restoration project really helped our team to realize the value and importance of giving back,” said head coach Casey Moore.  “It was a great bonding experience for our guys and they truly enjoyed it.  They came to recognize that the work they were putting in may not directly affect their own lives but that it would totally change the life of a less fortunate family in a positive way.  Our hard work has helped to restore a once dangerous and unlivable property into a family's home.  It was very rewarding."

Senior Matt Tunis states, “It is important for the team to come together and give back to the community.  We kill two birds with one stone by helping the City of Reading and growing as a team.  A lot goes into having a successful team in any sport, community service is one of those parts that helps mold a team into a National Championship contender and that is Alvernia Men's Soccer's goal.”
