Mohnton, Pa. (Oct. 8, 2013) - Sophomore
Zach Arsenault (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) fired a 1-under par 71 and earned individual low medalist leading Alvernia University to a 313 team total and 3rd place at the Crusaders' home invitational Tuesday afternoon at LedgeRock Golf Club.
Arsenault earned his first individual trophy on a match of cards on the eighth handicap hole over York's Kevin Long.
Alvernia sophomore
Brett Fernandes (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) posted a 4-over 76 playing the course's four par 5s in 4-over. Junior
Chris Van Natta (Easton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) shot 78 with one birdie on the par 4 12th. Sophomore
Ian Laxton (Stowe, Pa./Pottsgrove) posted an 88 to round out the counting scores.
York College posted a 305 to win the team event followed by Messiah College at 308.
Arsenault was 2-over thru five before carding his first birdie of the day at the par 4 sixth. He then rattled off five straight pars before a birdie at the 12th put him even on the day. He followed with a birdie at the par 5 13th, but gave that back when he missed the green right at 14 and couldn't get up and down. After pars at 15, 16, and 17, he dropped his fourth birdie of the day on the 627-yard par 5 home hole.
It's the first low medalist for the Crusaders this season and the fifth in the last two seasons--three of which have come on rounds of 1-under par.
Alvernia wraps up the fall season next Monday at the Lebanon Valley Invitational.
