Crusaders Win 9-0 After Game One Slips Away

Alvernia Fell To Immaculata 6-5 In Game One

Immaculata, Pa. (March 13, 2013) - Alvernia (8-2) used a four-run fifth inning in the second game of the day to take care
of business in five innings with a 9-0 win over Immaculata after falling in the first game 6-5. In the opener, Immaculata (3-5) rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh for the come from behind victory.

In the opener, after a scoreless first inning, the Mighty Macs went up 1-0 after stringing together three singles. Alvernia answered in the top of the third with an RBI-triple from Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) to tie the game at one. The Crusaders tagged on two more in the fourth after Aly Shilling (Blue Bell, Pa./Christopher Dock) lined a hit up the middle that nipped off the pitcher's glove and landed in no-man's land. Two more Alvernia runs, one on an RBI-triple from Amanda Galanti (Red Bank, NJ/Marine Acad./Sci.Tech), and another on an RBI-double from Rachel Fritz (Kenhorst, Pa./Governor Mifflin) in the fifth made it 5-1 Alvernia.

Immaculata managed five runs in the bottom of the seventh for the 6-5 walk-off win thanks to five hits, two Crusader errors and a walk.

Alvernia rebounded in game two, securing the chilly, five-inning, 9-0 win. Deanna Dungee (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) threw the shutout, surrendering just four hits and striking out seven.

After some first-inning excitement that saw Alvernia have three runs called back due to a rule misinterpretation, the Crusaders took the 1-0 lead in the second after an RBI-single from Katie Manowski (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island). Alvernia added three more in the third with RBI-hits from Galanti, Felicia McKenna (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Fritz, and another in the fourth as freshman Breanna Worrell (Wenonah, NJ/Deptford) knocked in Manowski who led off the inning with a single. Four more Alvernia runs in the top of the fifth secured the mercy-ruled 9-0 win as Dungee shut the Mighty Macs down in order in the bottom of the fifth.

Galanti was 5-for-7 today with a triple and four runs scored, McKenna was 4-for-7 with a walk and three runs scored, and Manowski was 3-for-6.

Alvernia is back in action at PSU-Berks Thursday afternoon for a 3pm doubleheader. Berks is off to their best start in program history, currently boasting a 6-0 record.
