Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) stroked a two-out, two-run, go-ahead double in the last inning of game one and the offense came alive for 12 runs in game two as Alvernia University (10-2, 2-0) swept a Commonwealth Conference softball doubleheader from Stevenson University (4-6, 0-2) Sunday afternoon at the University of Maryland.

Aly Shilling (Blue Bell, Pa./Christopher Dock) doubled to right center, junior
Katie Manowski (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) reached on a bunt single. Peto took a 1-2 pitch to left center plating both runners, and
Brittanie Wolfe (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) worked around a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh in a 4-3 win.

Samantha Penk (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South) both reached to start the game and scored on a two-run double off the bat of
Amanda Galanti (Red Bank, N.J./Marine Academy of Sci/Tech).
Stevenson scored twice in the second and took a 3-2 lead with a run in the sixth.
The offense took little time taking control in game two as the Crusaders plated five runs in the first inning. Peto, Penk, and Galanti all reached to start the game and
Rachel Fritz (Kenhorst, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Shilling had back-to-back two-run hits.
Alvernia tacked on two runs in the second and two more in the third then added three in the fifth shortening the game by the 8-run rule.
Deanna Dungee (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) allowed four runs, all earned, on 10 hits with two strikeouts over five innings.
Fritz and Shilling were both 3-for-3 while Penk went 4-for-4 and finished a double shy of the cycle.
Alvernia continues the conference schedule when it hosts Lebanon Valley on Tuesday.
