Amanda Galanti (Red Bank, NJ/Marine Academy of Sci./Tech) knocked in all four of Alvernia's runs, while
Samantha Penk (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) scored all four of the runs as Alvernia (11-3) split with Penn State Berks (7-1) this afternoon in non-conference action at Hintz Athletic Field at PSU-Berks. Berks took game one 6-1 with help from four Crusader errors, but Alvernia rebounded to take game two 3-1 and hand Berks their first loss this season.
In the opener, Alvernia went up 1-0 after Penk reached with a single, stole second and came around to score on a single up the middle from Galanti. Berks evened the game in the bottom of the fourth on an Alvernia miscue, and added five more runs in the bottom of the fifth on five hits and three Alvernia errors. PSU-Berks pitcher Jess Epler shut Alvernia down the rest of the way to secure the 6-1 win and improve to 7-0 on the season. Alvernia sophomore pitcher
Brittanie Wolfe (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) took the loss despite allowing just one earned run.
In game two, Alvernia again took an early 1-0 lead, this time in the top of the first inning as Penk reached with a single, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a single up the middle from Galanti. Penk and Galanti went back to work in the fifth inning to give Alvernia the 2-0 lead with a double from Penk, a passed ball and another RBI-single from Galanti. Berks cut Alvernia's lead in half with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Alvernia answered with an insurance run in their half of the seventh inning to put them up 3-1. This time, Penk drilled a triple to left center field and Galanti knocked her in with a single through the left side.

Deanna Dungee (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) went seven full innings, striking out five to improve to 7-0 on the season.
Penk was 5-for-8 with four runs scored and Galanti was 4-for-6 with four RBIs.
The Crusaders are back in action on Sat. March 23 when they travel to Lycoming for a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00pm.
