Williamsport, Pa. (March 24, 2013) - Sophomore pitcher Brittanie Wolfe (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) threw a five-inning shut-out, allowing just two hits in the opener, and senior pitcher Deanna Dungee (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) threw a one-hitter in game two as Alvernia (13-3, 4-0) swept Lycoming College (5-5, 0-2) in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader this afternoon at Lycoming. The Crusaders took game one 16-0 and game two 12-2.

In the opener, after a scoreless first inning, Alvernia scored three times in the top of the second thanks to a two-base Lycoming error and an RBI-single from Katie Manowski (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island). The Crusaders put up seven in the top of the third highlighted by a two-RBI double from freshman Briana Coan (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) and a two-RBI triple from Samantha Penk (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South). Five more runs in the top of the fourth, and one in the fifth secured the 16-0, 5-inning win for Alvernia.

Wolfe went nine-up nine-down to start the game before allowing a walk and a single in the fourth and one single in the fifth.

In game two, Alvernia pushed across one run in the top of the first after back to back singles from Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) and Penk started the inning, and Peto scored on a fielder's choice.

Lycoming rallied back with a two-out, two-run homerun to take the 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first.

In the second, Alvernia loaded the bases with an error and two walks. Peto earned a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at two, and after a pitching change, Penk drilled a grand slam over the right-centerfield fence to put the Crusaders up 6-2. Alvernia added two more in the fourth and four in the fifth thanks to RBI hits from Manowski, Peto and Amanda Galanti (Red Bank, NJ/Marine Acad. of Sci./Tech.) to secure the 12-2, five inning win.

Dungee went five full innings, giving up just one hit--the first inning homerun, and two unearned runs.
