COMPLETE RESULTS
Lingelstown, Pa. (Sept. 11, 2013) - Sophomore
Zach Arsenault (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) shot 6-over 78 to lead Alvernia University to a 323 team total and fifth place out of 18 teams at the Messiah College Fall Inviataional Wednesday afternoon hosted by Blue Ridge Country Club.
The Crusaders got off to a strong start with Arsenault--who started on 10--carding back-to-back at 16 and 17 to stand at 1-over thru his first eight holes. Junior
Chris Van Natta (Easton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic)--who also started on 10--also birdied the par 5 17th and two holes later dropped a short birdie at the par 4 first and was 1-over thru his first 10 holes. Sophomore
Brett Fernandes (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) was 3-over thru his first seven holes, and senior
Bobby Ranken (Mount Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley) was even par thru his first six holes.
But, it's not how you start, it's how you finish.
Arsenault had a pair of seemingly harmless bogies at 18 and three, but pushed a ball out of bounds on the par 5 fifth and needed to get up and down from a greenside bunker to save double. Van Natta bogied three straight holes after the birdie at 1 then played the last four holes in 5-over. He finished with a 9-over 81.
Fernandes 3-putted for bogey at 17 and followed with bogies at 18, 2, and 3. He also had a pair of bogies in the final four holes then a double on the par 4 10th--his final hole of the day--to shoot 82. Ranken 3-putted for double at 18, but was still just 2-over after pars at 1 and 2. He bogied the short but difficult par 4 third and nearly recovered from an errant drive on 4, but missed a short par putt. After a par at the fifth he played the final six holes in 6-over to shoot 82.
Junior
R.J. Cummings (Moorestown, N.J./Bishop Eustace) tripled the par 3 13th--his second hole of the day then got on the bogey train going 8-over thru his first seven holes. He parred 1 and 2 then made a string of 5s from 3 thru 8 and finished with doubles on 9 and 11.
Alvernia is right back at it Thursday afternoon when it travels to Woodstone Country Club for the Moravian College Fall Invitational.
