Ranken Fires Career-Best 73, Leads Alvernia To Fifth At F&M

COMPLETE RESULTS

Lancaster, Pa. (Apr. 14, 2014) - Senior Bobby Ranken (Mount Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley) set a new career best with a round of 2-over 73 at Bent Creek Monday afternoon leading Alvernia University to a 310 team total and a tie for fifth place out of 15 teams at the Franklin & Marshall Men's Golf Spring Invitational.

Ranken--starting on the par 4 10th--made three bogies and six pars on the back nine to turn in 39.  He bogied the 1st then ran off three straight pars before his first birdie of the day on the par 4 5th.  After another run of three straight pars, he sank a birdie on the par 5 9th, his final hole of the day, to shoot 1-under 34 on the front nine.

Sophomores Brett Fernandes (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) and Zach Arsenault (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) both shot 78, and junior Chris Van Natta (Easton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) rounded out the counting scores with an 81.  Fernandes had a tough start going bogey-quad in his first two holes, but bounced back to play the next nine holes in 1-under before three bogies in his final seven holes.  Arsenault put eight bogies, a birdie, and nine pars on his card making a 12-footer for birdie on the par 3 13th.

Cabrini's Dan Gentilucci took individual low medalist honors on a match of cards at 1-under 70 and F&M won the team title defending its home turf with a 7-over 291.

Despite the windy conditions, five players posted scores of even par or better and 41 players broke 80.

Alvernia returns to action next Monday at the Philadelphia University Invitational at the ACE Club.  The Commonwealth Championships are set to begin Saturday, April 26 at Hershey East.
