Brett Fernandes (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) shot 81 Monday morning to lead Alvernia University to a team total 334 and two-day total 663 good for 14th place at the Hershey Cup hosted by the University of Rochester and Hershey Country Club (East Course).
The Crusaders started on the back nine on Monday and Fernandes opened with a three straight bogies before nearly acing the par 3 13th. He tapped in for birdie and also made birdie on the par 4 17th to counter a bogey at 15 and shot 37 on the back nine. He parred the first two holes on the front nine then closed with six straight bogies and a double to shoot 81. Fellow sophomore
Zach Arsenault (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) made three bogies and six pars on the back to go out in 38. He also posted six bogies and a double for a 44 on the front nine to post 82.
Senior
Bobby Ranken (Mount Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley) shot 85 with a chip-in birdie at the par 3 8th, and junior
Chris Van Natta (Easton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) rounded out Monday's counting scores with an 86.
Fernandes and Van Natta both finished in a tie for 51st. Arsenault finished in a tie for 56th, and Ranke a tie for 60th.
Corey Crafford (Princeton, N.J./Lawrence) shot a two-day total 185 to finish 80th.
Alvernia returns to action Tuesday at its home invitational hosted by LedgeRock Golf Club.
