Owings Mill, Md. (Apr. 2, 2015 - Stevenson University (4-3, 1-0) jumped out to a 2-1 win after doubles play and held on for a 5-4 win over Alvernia Universit (3-6, 0-2) Thursday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference men's tennis action at Stevenson.
The Mustangs took 8-6 and 8-5 decisions at the top to doubles flights for the early lead then needed a 3-set win at No. 2 singles to hold off the Crusaders.
Alvernia got an 8-2 win from
Kyle Clark and
Antonio Gaetani in the third doubles flight, and Gaetani won in straight sets at No. 6 singles.Â
Dan Minnich and
Jacob Conapitski also earned straight set wins in singles play at No. 1 and No. 5.Â
Aaron Yuros won his first set 6-3 at No. 2 singles, but James Bishoff came back with 6-2 and 6-1 wins in the second and third set to take the match.
