Alvernia has now opened the season with consecutive wins after picking up the hardware at the Stevenson Invitational on September 3.
At Glen Brook on Tuesday, Gilbert got her record-setting round on track as she closed the front nine. She chipped in for birdie on both the third and the ninth holes on the outward nine to offset a pair of triples. She turned in 44 then posted the first even sub-par nine hole stretch in Alvernia history with two birdies and seven pars on the inward nine.
After the chip-in birdie at nine, she ran off three straight pars to start the back nine then rolled in a birdie at the par 4 13th. She followed with another red number on the par 4 15th and closed the round with three straight pars.
"It's the most birdies I've ever had in a tournament round," said Gilbert after the win. "After the front nine I stopped thinking about my swing and just played."
"Emily put on a clinic on how to score on the back nine," said Alvernia head coach
Tom O'Connell. "It looked easy. It was just fairways and greens. hardly any scrambling."
The Crusaders return to action next Tuesday at the Ursinus Invitational.
