Reading, Pa. (Oct. 4, 2016) - Penn State Harrisburg (2-1) used strong singles play to lift it to a 5-4 victory over Alvernia University (3-2) Tuesday afternoon in non-conference men's tennis action at Alvernia.
The Crusaders held a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of doubles play.
Colin MacCloskey and
Reid Hoff gave Alvernia its first point of the day with a 9-7 victory at No.2 doubles.
Todd Unger and
Antonio Gaetani picked up the second point at No.3 doubles, pushing their match to an 8-8 tie before taking the tie-break 7-3.
Luke Hangen collected a convincing win at No.1 singles, sealing the point in 6-0 straight sets.
The Lions then captured the second through fifth flights in straight sets.
Jimmy Souder notched Alvernia's final point with a 6-3, 6-3 straight set win at No. 6.
"We continue to improve each day and each match as a team," noted Coach Zerbe. "The fall schedule has the Alvernia men ready to make some noise at the individual MAC tournament."
