BOX SCORE 2 Clermont, Florida (Mar. 9, 2016) - Alvernia University (3-3) picked up its third split day in Florida as the Crusaders earned a 3-2 victory over University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg before falling to Monmouth College 4-1.
The Crusaders collected their third win of the season in game one. Alvernia posted all three of its runs in the bottom of the second.
Mckenzie Miessau led off the inning with double to right and came around to score on the next play.
Brianna DePriest advanced Miessau to third, and Miessau crossed on an error on the throw.
Brianna Fisher pushed DePriest up to second, and after
Emily Carmella reached by walk, the pair took advantage of a passed ball to give the Crusaders runners at second and third.
Morgan Psiuk then plated both as she reached on a Bobcat error.
Pitt-Greensburg put together their own run in the top of the third, threatening to tie the game. With two outs, the Bobcats pushed across two runs and sent the tying run home on a single to center. However Psiuk came up big in the field, shutting down the runner at home.
Both teams had runners on the base paths later in the game, yet neither side was able to scratch together another run.
Freshman
Kayla Andrews racked up her first collegiate win on the mound, scattering six hits in the complete game effort.
In game two, Monmouth College made the most of Alvernia miscues, putting four runs on the board off of four Crusader errors.
Down 4-0 entering the top of the fifth,
Amanda Turner gave the Crusaders their first hit of the game on a single up the middle. Miessau followed Turner with a single of her own, and a passed ball moved Miessau and pinch runner Bern Carey up another 60 feet. DePriest then drove in Alvernia's lone run on a rip to center.
Freshman
Brittany Brown suffered the loss on the mound, allowing just seven hits in six innings of work.
The Crusaders wrap up their spring training games on Thursday in a pair of games at 9:00 and 11:00 am.
