Annville, Pa. (Mar. 28, 2016) - Senior
Brett Fernandes battled windy conditions to post a 4-over 76 and take second place leading Alvernia University to a 340 team total and a tie for seventh place out of 20 teams at the Lebanon Valley College Spring Invitational Monday afternoon at Lebanon Country Club.
The 101-player field was able to play the first 90 minutes in relatively calm conditions before sustained winds of 15-20 mile per hour with gusts over 30 plagued the final three hours.
Fernandes--one of just five players to break 80--started his day with two birdies and three pars in the first five holes then minimized the damage with six bogies over the final 13 holes. He stuck his tee shot inside 10 feet at the 152-yard par 3 14th--his first hole of the day--and rolled in another one at the 423-yard par 4 18th.
Fernandes earned the 10th top 10 finish of his career finishing two strokes behind Moravian's Jim Maru.
Sophomore #2
Keith Noonan--the MAC Commonwealth Golfer of the Week--had six bogies and a triple on his card and finished tied for seventh place at 81. After an opening par at 14, Noonan played the next 11 holes in 2-over with back-to-back bogies at 5 and 6. He carded his triple at the demading 409-yard par 4 11th, a hole the Crusaders played in a collective 12-over par.
Junior
Zach Stricker posted 87 and sophomore
Cameron Cathcart rounded out the counting scores with a 96.
Alvernia is back in action this weekend for the Heshey Cup on Sunday and Monday.
