Mohnton, Pa. (Apr. 13, 2016) - Freshman
Emily Gilbert shot 84 to earn her seventh individual low medalist honor of the year and lead Alvernia University to a 396 team total and its fourth team win of the year as the Crusaders took their home invitational title by 11 strokes over conference rival Eastern University.
Gilbert shot 43-41 and finished two strokes ahead of Stevenson's Morgan Wirtz. She started on the par 4 sixth and carded pars on six of her first seven holes with her only blemish a double bogey at the par 5 seventh. She turned off 18 and was just 7-over for the day. Gilbert rolled in pars at three of the first four holes on the front nine and had a chance at 80 or better with one hole to go, but pushed her approach right on the par 4 fifth bounding off the cart path and behind a tree. The wayward approach ended in an 8, but she still landed on her season average with the 84.
Sophomore
Cayla McCarty finished tied for fourth with a 94,
Jordan Kissner posted a 99, and
Marisa Lombardo rounded out the counting scores with a 119.
Alvernia returns to action this Saturday at the reschedule Kutztown Invitational.
