Brett Fernandes posted a 7-over 78 and sits tied for third place after day one of the MAC Commonwealth Men's Golf Championships Saturday hosted by Hershey Country Club on its East Course.
The Crusaders shot 342 and are in a tie for third place as a team with 18 holes to play.
Sophomore
Keith Noonan shot 82 and is tied for ninth place. Carl Stitt posted a 90 and
Zach Stricker rounded out the counting scores with a 92.
Alvernia was paired with Stevenson and Messiah and started day one off the 10th tee. Fernandes shot 39 on the back and matched the number on the front. He had four bogies and five pars on the back nine then came back with seven pars, a bogey, and a double on the front.
Noonan had five bogies on the back to shoot 40 then had six bogies and three pars for 42 on the front. Stricker had the Crusaders' only red number of the day rolling in a birdie on the par 4 seventh.
Stevenson leads the tournament after shooting 312 on Saturday. Mustang freshman Luke McKeogh shot 4-over 75 and has a 2-shot lead over teammate Austin Fuglestad and a 3-shot lead over three other players including Fernandes.
The tournament tees off on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. Alvernia hits the turf starting at 9:20 a.m.
