Reading, Pa. (Sept. 23, 2016) - Penn State Berks (1-1) took five of the last six singles matches to lock up a 7-2 win over Alvernia University (2-1) Thursday afternoon in non-conference men's tennis action at Gring's Mill Tennis Courts.
The Crusaders earned one of the three doubles points avaiable when
Addison Hanna and
Colin MacCloskey teammed for an 8-6 win at No. 2. Leading 2-1 heading into singles play, the Lions earned straight set wins at each of the last five singles matches. Junior
Luke Hangen earned the second point fo the Crusaders at No. 1 when Will Byler retired trailing one set to none.
Sophomore
Jimmy Souder earned a match win for the Crusaders at No. 7 singles.
"This match is a building block for us heading into the MAC Individual Tournament," said Alvernia head coach
Larry Zerbe. "We're learning about our strengths and our needs. We're on the right path."
Alvernia continues the non-conference schedule with a pair of home matches before the MAC Individual Championships the weekend of October 8.
