Emily Gilbert shot 84 to lead Alvernia University to a third place standing with a 367 team score after Day One of the Kutztown University Women's Golf Invitational Sunday at Moselem Golf Club.
Kutztown has the lead at 331 with West Chester University just three strokes back. Â Alvernia is five strokes ahead of conference foe Eastern University and six up on East Stroudsburg. Â Gilbert trails individual leader Shannon Weber (Kutztown) by six strokes. Â Weber shot 78 and was the only player to break 80 in round one.
Cayla McCarty shot 88 for Alvernia,
Briana Hocker shot 92, and both
Faith Hughes and
Jordan Kissner posted 103.
Gilbert shot a 3-over 38 on the front nine with a birdie at the par 3 5th. Â She finished the round with a 46 on the back nine. Â McCarty shot 42 on the front nine and 46 on the back.
Alvernia returns to Moselem on Monday to complete the Kutztown Invitational.
