Gilbert Leads Alvernia to Third Place Finish at Kutztown

Kutztown, Pa (Oct. 02, 2017) - Junior Emily Gilbert fired an 81 to lead Alvernia University to a third place finish with a two-day team score of 722 at the second day of the Kutztown University Fall Invitational at Moselem Golf Club.

With a two-day total of 165, Gilbert improved by three shots on the second day to finish in a tied for 5th, and just nine strokes back from the first place finisher. Gilbert shot a 5-over 40 on the front nine that included a birdie on the par 5 8th. On the back nine, Gilbert had four pars, including three consecutive ones, on her way to a 6-over 41. Gilbert finished with eight total pars, with pars on all four par 3s.

Finishing 11 shots behind Gilbert was senior Cayla McCarty. For the second day in a row, McCarty shot an 88 on her way to a two day total of 176 for a t-14 finish. McCarty's round was highlighted by five pars, including three consecutive pars on the par 3 5th, par 4 6th, and par 5 7th.

Finishing in third for the Golden Wolves, and 22nd overall, was freshman Briana Hocker. Hocker improved by one stroke on the second day, shooting a 91. Hocker's round was highlighted by a birdie on the par 3 5th. Hocker had an impressive tee shot that landed just a few feet from the hole, which she rolled in for the two.

Rounding out the counting scores for Alvernia was junior Jordan Kissner. With an eight stroke improvement, Kissner had the largest improvement over two days, shooting a 95. Kissner finished in a 32nd with two day total of 198. Kissner pared both long par-5s. On the par 5 12th, Kissner placed her approach shot just over a foot from the hole.

Faith Hughes was the fifth Golden Wolf at the Kutztown Invite. Hughes finished with a two-day total of 202.

Kutztown's Shannon Weber was the individual low medalist with a two-day total of 159. Kutztown also took home the team championship with a two-day team total of 658.

???????Alvernia's team total of 722 was 12 strokes better than conference rival Eastern University, and was 37 strokes better than its team total at last year's event.

The Golden Wolves return to action on October 10th, when they host their home invitational at LedgeRock Golf Club.
