Hershey, Pa. (Apr. 22, 2017) - Sophomore Emily Gilbert shot a MAC Championships record, 6-over 77 to lead Alvernia University to a 381 team total and third place out of eight teams at the MAC Women's Golf Championships hosted by Hershey Country Club (East Course) Saturday afternoon.

Gilbert persevered through rain and cold for much of the front nine to post a score of 4-over 40 through nine holes.  She played the back in an impressive 2-over 37 to take an eight stroke lead into Sunday's final round.

Junior Cayla McCarty shot 90, sophomore Jordan Kissner shot 103, and Jenna Trento finished at 111.

Gilbert was the only player in the field to open with birdie at the par 5 first.   She limited the damage to just bogey on four straight holes from 3-6 and made bogey at the par 3 8th before a par at 9 to turn in 40.

She made bogies at 12 and 13 before a solid birdie at the par 4 15th, and made bogey at 16 before finishing with a pair of pars at 17 and 18.  No one else in the field parred both of the last two difficult par 4s.

McCarty had a bit of a rough start to her day playing the first four holes in 5-over.  She rebounded nicely to par three of the last five holes on the front nine and turned in 8-over 44.  She had a pair of pars on the back nine, including the home hole, and stands alone in sixth place after day one.

Kissner had two pars in a front nine score of 47 and came back in 56.  Trento shot 54 on the front nine and 57 on the back.

Eastern University had four players in at 94 or better and leads Stevenson University by four strokes after the first day at 365.
