Lafayette Hill, Pa. (Sept. 8, 2017) - Alvernia Women's Golf Team, led by junior
Emily Gilbert, made its 2017-18 debut at the challenging ACE club in a dual match versus Jefferson (Philadelphia University and Thomas Jefferson University).
Gilbert, the defending MAC Player of the Year, fired an 11-over 83 to lead the Golden Wolves in their opening competition of the season. On the front nine, Gilbert shot a nine-over 45 on the front nine before rebounding with seven pars and two bogeys to shoot a two-over 38 on the back nine.
Senior
Cayla McCarty, a 2017 second team honoree, shot a 94. Junior
Jordan Kissner shot a 98 to round out the scores for the returning members of the team.
Alvernia welcomed three new freshman to the team, who started off their collegiate careers at one of the top-ranked courses in Pennsylvania. Briana Hocker led the freshman class, shooting a 92. Faith Hughes was just six strokes back of Hocker, firing a 98. Hannah Smith shot a 126.
Alvernia captured a win over Jefferson with a team score of 367, bettering the Rams by 41 strokes. Jefferson senior Rachael Huber led the Rams with an 83.
The Golden Wolves continue their season on September 16th at the two-day Carnegie Mellon Fall Shoot Out in Pittsburgh, Pa.
