BOX SCORE Reading, Pa. (Oct. 6, 2018) - Alvernia University (1-3) earned its first victory of the 2018-19 season on Saturday with a non-conference 7-2 win over Gwynedd Mercy University (0-2) in men's tennis action at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves got an early 2-0 advantage with forfeits by the Griffins in the No. 3 doubles spot and No. 6 singles spot.

Alvernia then earned an additional point in doubles off of an 8-1 win at No. 2 singles by Todd Unger and Kevin Angeles. Gwynedd got a point back at No. 1 doubles with a Brian Irwin/Max Schneider 8-2 win over Alvernia's Michael Brophy and Jimmy Souder.

The Golden Wolves then took four of the five remaining singles matches. Brophy took a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles. Souder dropped his No. 2 singles match with an 8-2 decision. Unger took No. 3 singles in straight sets with a 6-0, 6-0 decision. Angles and Sabau earned the final two points with 6-4, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1 wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.

Alvernia continues on its fall season on Tuesday with an away competition against PSU Berks.
