Emily Gilbert shot an 8-over 80 to earn Division III low-medalist honors and pace Alvernia to the DIII team championship on Tuesday at Alvernia's home invitational, hosted at LedgeRock Golf Club.
Gilbert started her day on the long par 4 15th with a double bogey, before settling in for a par on the par 4 16th. After going bogey-double bogey on two of the toughest holes at LedgeRock, Gilbert went par-par on one and two. She posted a double on three, but settled posted five pars on the final six holes on the front nine. Back on the back nine to finish up her round, Gilbert went on an impressive run to birdie three of her final five holes to finish up with an 80 on the day. Gilbert finished in third across the fields of DII and DIII players, and finished first among the DIII schools competing.
Gilbert's DIII low-medalist honors today was her fourth time earning the honor at Alvernia's home invitational.
Finishing in second for the Golden Wolves and t-14th overall was freshman
Yupha Muzyka. Muzyka started her day with a bogey on the par three 14th, and earned her first par of the day on the 16th. She went bogey-double on 17 and 18 and earned her second par of the day on the on the par 3 2nd. She then went par-par on the 4th and 5th, and made a par on the par 5 8th. She pared her last par three of the day with a three on the downhill 10th.
Finishing in third for Alvernia and t-22nd overall was
Briana Hocker with a round of 93. Hocker started her day with a par on the par 5 13th. Hocker's next ar of the day came on the par 3 nd, and she went par-bogey-par on 5, 6, and 7. She posted her fourth par of the front nine on the par 4 9th. She then made two pars on her final three holes to close out her round of 93.
Rounding out the counting scores for Alvernia was
Jordan Kissner. Kissner finished the day with a +28 100 to finish 34th overall. Kissner posted three pars on the day, all of which came on the front nine. Kissner posted her first par of the day on the par 4 1st. She then went par-par on the par 4 6th and par 5 7th.
Faith Hughes played as Alvernia's fifth and finished in 36th place overall with a 107. Hughes' round was highlighted by pars on 14 and 16, and a birdie on the par 5 7th.
Playing as an individual for the Golden Wolves was freshman
Maggie Arnold. Arnold finished her day in 38th with a 115. Arnold had one par on her day, which came at the par 4 6th.
West Chester placed 1st overall and won the DII championship with a team score of 327. West Chester's Meghan O'Mara won DII and overall low-medalist honors with a round of +3 over 75.
Alvernia has a ten day break before continuing its fall schedule on October 19th at Lebanon Valley's Invitational.
