BOX SCORE 2 Reading, Pa. (March 27, 2018) - Alvernia University (12-1-1) split a non-conference doubleheader with Stockton University (10-6) Tuesday afternoon.
Alvernia won game one 3-0 while Stockton took game two 4-3 in sixth innings before the game was called for darkness.

Riley Shields started on the mound giving the Golden Wolves another strong performance improving to 8-0 on the season. Shields struck out 6 batters while only giving up 5 hits.

Going into the sixth inning tied 0-0, Bern Carey led off the inning with a single to second base then advanced to third off the hit from
Sarah Reinert. With 2 outs in the inning,
Emily Carmella came through with a clutch single to right field to score Carey and advance Reinert to third. A fielder's choice RBI added a run before
Mckenzie Miessau would hit an infield single to give the Golden Wolves a 3-0 lead. The Osprey's tried to get a rally going in the top of seventh, but Shields stopped the threat inducing a ground ball and striking out the final out of the game.

In game two Stockton University got on the board right away scoring 2 in the first and 1 in the third. In the bottom half of the third inning Carey and Reinert both singled to try and get the offense going, but the offense fell short leaving 2 runners stranded on base.

In the top of the 6
th inning, Stockton added to their lead making the score 4-0. In the bottom half of the inning, Alvernia gave a final push trying to gain the lead. Reinert led off the inning with an infield single, 2 batters later a walk had runners on first and second before
JoAnnah Lim hit her third home run of the season closing the lead 4-3. Two ground ball outs would end Alvernia's comeback and the game would be called due to darkness to give Alvernia their first loss of the season.

Kayla Andrews started for Alvernia and recorded the loss giving up 2 runs and 2 hits through 0.2 innings.
Nicole August came in throwing 5.1 innings of relief scattering 6 hits, 4 strikeouts while giving up 2 runs.

Alvernia will host Arcadia University Thursday for their first conference game. The game is scheduled for a 3:00 PM start.
