BOX SCORE 2 Reading, Pa. (March 29, 2018) – Alvernia University (12-3-1, 0-2) opened up MAC Commonwealth conference play with a pair of losses against Arcadia University (6-8, 3-1) Thursday afternoon at Angelica Park.
Arcadia took the lead in the 4
th inning scoring three runs off of 3 hits and 1 Alvernia error. The Knights continued to add on to their lead in the fifth inning with a leadoff double then a 2 run homerun off the bat of Hunter Schantz making the score 5-0.
Alvernia closed the gap scoring 3 runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning on three hits. Offense was led by
Sarah Bystrycki with a two run triple. The Golden Wolves added one more run in the sixth inning but was unable to push anymore across with a final score of 6-4.
Riley Shields (8-1) started on the mound throwing 4.1 innings giving up 6 runs on 6 hits.
Zoee Garis came in the relief for 2.2 innings of work.
In game two Arcadia wasted no time getting on the board when Schantz hit another two run homerun. Alvernia was able to answer right back scoring one run. The Knights took advantage of costly walks in the second inning extending their lead 7-1. The Golden Wolves tried to keep chipping away to get back even scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Arcadia added an insurance run in the fifth inning off a successful 2 out suicide bunt. Alvernia was unable get to a rally going to end the game with a score of 8-3.
Nicole August started on the mound going 1.2 innings giving up 7 runs/5 earned, off of 2 hits. Garis and Shields each pitched 2.2 innings of relief.
Alvernia returns to action Monday, April 2
nd taking on Messiah in a MAC Commonwealth conference game set for a 2:30 start.
