BOX SCORE 2 Clermont, FL. (March 4, 2018) - Alvernia University Softball opened up the 2018 season with a pair of wins on Sunday at The Spring Games in Clermont, FL.
The Golden Wolves topped Carthage College 6-5 in game one before defeating Mitchell College 10-1 in 5 innings.
In game one against Carthage College (1-1),
Sarah Bystrycki and
Morgan Psiuk each went 2-3, scoring one run a piece. Sophomore
Riley Shields pitched a complete game, giving up five runs, 3 earned, for her first win of the season.
In game two,
Sarah Bystrycki continued her hot start leading the offense with 3 doubles, while scoring one run.
Emily Carmella went 1-2, scoring three runs, while
Mckenzie Miessau went 2-3 with two runs scored leading Alvernia to a 10-1 win over Mitchell College (0-1). As a team, Alvernia collected 9 hits, scoring 10 runs to force the mercy rule after 5 innings. Junior
Kayla Andrews threw five innings of work to get the win, giving up 6 hits, allowing one earned run.
The Golden Wolves continue day 2 of their spring trip facing North Central University at 2:00 PM and Emmanuel College at 7:00 PM.
