BOX SCORE 2 Stevenson, Md. (April, 21, 2018) – Alvernia University (20-9-1, 6-8) split a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader with Stevenson University (13-15, 5-9) Saturday afternoon.
Stevenson jumped on the board in the home half of the third inning, but the Golden Wolves answered right back to even the score.
Morgan Psiuk lead-off the fourth inning with a double down the left field line. Psiuk was able to advance to third on the next play and then scored off a fielding error by the first basemen.
The very next inning the Mustangs plated another run capitalizing on a stolen base and an Alvernia throwing error. Starting pitcher,
Riley Shields, evened the score 2-2 by hitting a 2 out solo homerun; her first homerun of the season. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Alvernia was trying to push the game to extra innings, but Stevenson hit a 3 run walk off homerun to take the game by a final score of 5-2.
In game two Alvernia got the offense going scoring 5 runs off of five hits in the first inning and never lost the lead to win the game 11-6. The offense was led by
Morgan Psiuk going 2-4 with a double and 2 runs scored and
Sarah Reinert with 2 RBI's and a double.
JoAnnah Lim and Analise Fourace both went 2-4, with 2 RBI's.
Zoee Garis (5-1) started on the mound going 2.2 innings earning the win.
Nicole August threw 3.1 innings of relief and Shields came in to throw the final 3 outs of the game.
The Golden Wolves are the road for a nonconference game at Ursinus Tuesday afternoon.
