BOX SCORE 2 Reading, Pa. (April 28, 2018) – Alvernia University (22-11-1, 8-8) swept 2 must win games against Lebanon Valley (17-13, 9-7) on Senior Day. With the wins the Golden Wolves clinch the fifth seed in the MAC Commonwealth Championship playoffs.
Lebanon Valley got on the board in the first inning with back to back doubles, but that would be the only run they would score. The Golden Wolves took the lead in the home half of the 2
nd inning.
Emily Carmella put herself in scoring position with a 2 out double.
Jocelyn Flores reached on a fielding error before
Alyssa Acker hit a 2 run double to left field scoring Carmella and Flores.
Alvernia added to the lead in the bottom of the 4
th with doubles from
JoAnnah Lim and
Jocelyn Flores.
Morgan Psiuk followed up with an RBI single to make the score 5-1.
In game two Alvernia took an early lead right away in the first inning. After Psiuk led off the inning with a ground out to the pitcher,
Sarah Reinert got the offensive going with a bunt hit single. The Golden Wolves took advantage of a few walks and a hit batter to take the lead 1-0. In the 3
rd inning the offense came alive plating 5 runs off of seven Alvernia hits. The Golden Wolves tacked on 3 more runs to induce the mercy rule in the bottom of the 6
th inning to win the game 9-1.
Each player in the line-up recorded a hit for Alvernia, while
Sarah Bystrycki, Lim, and Flores each had two hits.
Riley Shields threw both games for Alvernia scattering 6 hits and giving up 1 run in each of the games, while recording 7 strikeouts.
The MAC Commonwealth Tournament will be held at Lebanon Valley starting Friday, May 4. Alvernia will face #4 seed Hood with the first pitch slated for 10:00 AM.
