BOX SCORE 2 Grantham, Pa. (April 6, 2018) - Alvernia University (12-4-1, 0-4) lost 2 games to Messiah College (13-11, 4-0) in a MAC Commonwealth conference doubleheader Friday afternoon. The Falcons won game one 4-2 and took game two 1-0.

Messiah gained the lead early scoring 2 runs off a double from Carrie Fix in the bottom of the second inning. Messiah would push across what would be the go ahead run in the third and then an insurance run in the fourth.

Alvernia tried to get a comeback going in the sixth when
Morgan Psiuk lead of the inning with a double then advanced to third on the sac bunt by
Sarah Reinert. Sarah Bystryscki's RBI infield single scored Psiuk then
Emily Carmella singled up the middle. With runners on first and second
JoAnnah Lim double to left field scoring Bystrycki. The Golden Wolves ended their rally with back to back ground outs with a final score of 4-2. Leading the offense was Psuik, Lim and Shields each with 2 hits.

Riley Shields started on the mound and took the loss throwing 4 innings of work and giving up all 4 runs.
Zoee Garis pitched in relief going 2 innings.

In game two, Messiah wasted no time getting ahead early in the bottom half of the first inning. Fix led off the inning with an infield single then moved to second on a sac bunt. A passed ball allowed Fix to advance to third. Isabel Seise single would score Fix and hold up to be the only run needed.Â

Alvernia would again try to even the score in the sixth inning, but would not be able to push a run across. Shields started game two throwing a complete game giving up 1 run on 4 hits. Bystryski went 2-3 with a triple, Reinert and Psiuk each went 1-3.

Alvernia is back in action tomorrow afternoon for a MAC Commonwealth conference doubleheader against Lycoming.
