BOX SCORE 2 Reading, Pa. (April 7, 2018) – Alvernia University (14-5-1, 2-4) sweeps Lycoming College (5-11, 0-4) in a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Angelica Park.
Alvernia pushed 2 runs across right away in the first inning.
Morgan Psiuk doubled to right field, then advanced to third on a bunt hit from
JoAnnah Lim. With 2 outs
Sarah Bystrycki singled to right center scoring Psiuk and Lim.
The Golden Wolves tacked on 2 more runs in the sixth inning that was led by a 2 out double from Lim.
Riley Shields followed up a RBI single before Bystrycki hit her fourth triple of the season scoring Shields. Bystrycki and Lim both went 2-3 at the plate.
Shields (9-3) threw a complete game shutout scattering 4 hits with 6 strikeouts.
In game two, Alvernia scored in the second inning to take the early before adding another run in the fifth inning. Lim started off the inning with a double, next play would advance Lim to third before Bystrycki doubled to left field earning her 4
th RBI of the day.
Lycoming answered right back in the sixth inning drawing a leadoff walk that would score off a single through the right side. Back to back singles and a throwing error would allow the Warriors to plate another run tying the game.
Not wasting any time getting the momentum going, Shields led the inning off with a single then advanced to second on a ground ball out to the shortstop. With 2 outs and a runner in scoring position,
Mckenzie Miessau hit a double to left field scoring the run for the walk off hit to win the game 3-2.
Sarah Reinert went 3-4 at the plate and Miessau was 2-4 with 2 doubles. Lim, Bystrycki, and
Emily Carmella each had an extra base hit.
Nicole August started game two throwing 5.2 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits.
Zoee Garis came in for relief throwing 1.1 innings earning her second win of the season.
Alvernia will play a nonconference doubleheader at Neumann University Tuesday afternoon.
