Emily Gilbert shot an 83 in cold, snowy conditions at Piney Branch Country Club to lead Alvernia University to a 363 team total and third place out of seven teams at the Stevenson University Spring Invitational on Monday.
Gilbert went on an impressive four hole run on the front nine, going par-birdie-par-par on holes 4-7 to post a front nine 40. The junior went on to post two more pars on the back nine to finish with an 83, just one stroke off low medalist Alexis Miller from Marymount (Va.).
Senior
Cayla McCarty finished in second for the Golden Wolves and in tenth place overall with a round of 90. McCarty pared the 7th and 8th on the front nine and the 17th and 18th on the back nine.
Junior
Jordan Kissner and freshmen
Briana Hocker and
Faith Hughes all posted rounds of 95 to tie for 16th place overall. Hocker went par-par on the 7th and 8th holes and played bogey golf on the back nine. Hughes, who started on the par 4 17th, posted four pars on her card for the day, including two pars to bookend her round. Kissner carded two 3's on her round with a birdie on the par 4 4th and a par on her final hole of the day, the par 3 16th.
Stevenson University posted a team total of 342 to take the title on its home course.
Alvernia will compete in its third match in as many days when the Golden Wolves head to Stonewall Golf Club on Tuesday to compete in the Ursinus Invitational.
