Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida (May 10, 2018) - Alvernia''s Women's Golf Team's historic 2018 season came to an end on Thursday afternoon following the third round of the NCAA DIII National Championship at Mission Inn Resort's El Campeón Course on Thursday
Alvernia finished the tournament in 22nd place, one place better than its finish on Wednesday, but finished outside the 15 team cut.
The Golden Wolves posted a third day team total of 373 and were paced by junior
Emily Gilbert's round of 79.
Gilbert started her third day of competition with a bogey on the par 5 1st hole, but turned it settled in for seven pars over the next eight holes. She finished the front nine with a two-over 38. Gilbert tripped up on the par 5 10th hole with a double bogey, but again settled in for six pars over her final eight holes of the tournament. Gilbert's 79 was an eight stroke improvement from Wednesday and her lowest round of the Championship. She finished the Championship with a three day total of 248. Gilbert moved up 18 places from Wednesday, and finished her tournament tied for 43rd place. Gilbert was just four strokes off making the individual cut, which was set at 244.
Finishing in second for the Golden Wolves was senior
Cayla McCarty. McCarty finished the third day with a score of 91. McCarty posted four pars on the front nine, including two back to back pars on the par 3 and par 4 9th to post a 43 at the turn. McCarty started off the back nine on with two pars over the first three holes, but played bogey golf to finish off her round. McCarty posted a three day total of 271 and tied for 102nd place.
Finishing the tournament in third for the Golden Wolves was freshman
Briana Hocker. Hocker finished the third day with a round of 100, her lowest round of the tournament. Hocker posted four pars on her day, including back-to-back pars to close out the front nine. Her par on the par 3 8th came following a perfectly executed bunker shot to give herself a very manageable par putt. Hocker finished the tournament with a three day total of 305.
Rounding out the Championship for the Golden Wolves was junior
Jordan Kissner. Kissner had a third day score of 103. Kissner had four pars on her third round, and posted Alvernia's lone birdie of the round on the par 4 9th. Kissner's approach shot was near perfect, giving her a five foot putt for birdie. Kissner finished the Championship with a three day total of 306.
The final 15 teams and top six individuals whose team did not make the cut will close out the Championship with a final 18 holes on Friday
Alvernia wraps up its 2017-18 season with a MAC Championship and its first appearance in the NCAA Championship in program history.
