Joe Polidoro shot 4-over 76 to lead Alvernia University to a 329 team total and fifth place out of nine teams at the DeSales University Men's Golf Fall Invitational Thursday afternoon hosted by Mountain Laurel Golf Club.
Freshman Luke Fagley shot 79, senior
Kyle Millard shot 80, and junior
Andrew Schoenblum rounded out the counting scores with a 94.
Polidoro started his day on the par 5 ninth and opened with four straight pars before rolling in a birdie at the par 5 13th. Â He hit a rough patch with bogies on each of the next six holes, but stopped the streak with a par at the second and stuffed his approach inside two feet at 4 for birdie. Â He played the final eight holes of the day in 1-under to finish at 76.
Fagley started his round on the par 4 10th with a bogey and made another bogey at 12. Â He birdied the long par 4 15th, but made bogey at 17 to post 2-over 38 on the back nine. Â He was 3-over on the front nine with three bogies through 8, but found the water off the tee at 9 and made a double to finish.
Millard was one of four players in the field to shoot 80. Â He started on 10 in front of Fagley and stuffed his first approach inside a foot to open with a birdie. Â He followed with back-to-back bogies then ran into a bit of trouble at 16 when his third shot into the par 5 hit a rock in the fairway and carromed directly into the trees. Â He had to punch out and made double and bogies 18 to shoot 41 on the back. He bogied the first two holes on the front nine then ran off six straight pars before finishing with a bogey at 9.
Schoenblum posted 47s on both nines and carded four pars on his day.
Lebanon Valley College won the team event shooting 299 led by junior Thomas Moran who shot 1-under 71.
Alvernia returns to action Monday at the Moravian Invitational hosted by Saucon Valley Country Club.
