Lafayette Hill, Pa. (Mar. 25, 2019) - Junior Kyung Chung shot a 4-over 76 to earn low medalist honors and lead Alvernia University to a 323 team total and a team victory in the Jefferson University Tri-Match at The ACE Club.
Chestnut Hill finished four strokes behind Alvernia at 327 and Jefferson was third at 344.
Jake Duffy and Luke Fagley both shot 80 for the Golden Wolves and Joe Polidoro rounded out the counting scores with an 87.
Chung narrowly missed a 12-foot birdie putt on his first hole of the day--the 346-yard par 4 1st--and carded pars on each of the first four holes. Â He stuck a wedge from 70 yards to 10 feet on the par 4 5th and rolled in the birdie putt to go 1-under then followed with four more pars to post 1-under 35 on the front nine.
His first blemish came with a 3-putt at the par 4 10th, but rebounded with a run of three straight pars before the cold rain moved in for the last 90 minutes of play. Â Chung hit an aggressive putt on an uphill look at the par 3 14th and made bogey at 16 and double at 17 before a tap-in par at the last to post the low round of the day.
Fagley opened his day knocking down the stick at the 1st for a 3-foot birdie look. Â He gave it back with a 3-putt bogey at the 2nd then ran off seven straight pars for an even par 36 on the front. Â He went bogey-bogey to start the back nine then made his second birdie of the day at the par 3 12th. He made back-to-back pars as the rains moved in them finished 7-over on the final four holes to shot 80.
Duffy was even keel for most of the day shooting 4-over 40 on both nines. Â He started on the back nine with a pair of pars then three straight bogeys. Â After a par at the 374-yard par 4 15th he chipped in for his first birdie at the par 5 16th. Â He doubled 17 and closed the back nine with a par at the last.
Duffy turned to the front and started with four straight pars before a bogey at the 5th. Â He made bogies at 6 and 7 before a par at 8, and found the water off the tee at 9 and narrowly missed a par putt to finish at 80.
Polidoro hit each of the first five greens in regulation, but struggled to find the speed of the greens going 3-over with three 3-putts on the first five holes. Â He made pars at 7 and 8 and his first birdie of the day on the par 5 9th.
He managed a par at the par 3 12th, but that was his lone par on the back nine as he went 8-over on the final four holes through the cold and the rain to post 87.
Joe Bode played in the #5 spot and shot 89 and Andrew Schoenblum posted a 96.
Alvernia is off for the rest of this week and returns to action next Monday at the Lebanon Valley Invitational hosted by Lebanon Country Club.
