Golden Wolves Finish Second At MAC Championship

Gilbert Finishes Third, Hocker and Kissner Post Career Lows

White Haven, Pa. (Apr. 28, 2019) - Alvernia University Women's Golf broke its MAC Championship Two-Day team record with a two-day score of 653, but fell 19 strokes shy of Stevenson University, who claimed the team title at the 2019 MAC Championships, hosted by Mountain Laurel Golf Club.

Alvernia broke its two-day record of 737 by 84 strokes and Jordan Kissner, a senior playing in her final career round, and sophomore Briana Hocker each posted career lows, with an 83 and 79, respectively.

After playing through high winds yesterday, the Golden Wolves again played in less than ideal conditions with temperatures feeling like the high 30's and a steady, cold rain falling for most of the round.

Emily Gilbert finished in third place overall and Yupha Muzyka finished in fifth place to earn First Team All-MAC honors. Hocker finished in sixth place to to earn Second Team All-MAC honors. Kissner fell just shy of All-MAC honors with an 11th place finish.

Gilbert finished with a 78 on day two for a two-day total of 157. Gilbert started off her day going birdie-bogey-birdie on the first three holes. She then posted five straight pars before finding trouble with a double bogey on the long, uphill par 5 ninth to finish +1 on her front nine. Her tee shot on the tenth hole found trouble among some trees, and she finished the hole with a double and posted a bogey on the 11th. Gilbert recovered with a par on the par 3 12th, but gave two back on 13 and 14. Gilbert posted pars the rest of the way to finish out her highly decorated career with a third place finish and her fourth All-Conference honor.

Muzyka finished second for Alvernia and fifth overall with a second round score of 83 for a two day total of 163. Muzyka posted a par on her first hole of the day and then posted a birdie on the par 4 2nd. She gave it back with a bogey on the par 5 3rd. She went par-bogey on the next two holes and posted three straight pars go 1-over through eight. Muzyka's tee shot off nine found water to the left and she posted a seven on the difficult par 5 to finish 3-over through nine. She posted a par on the par 4 10th, but struggled to find her rhythm on the back nine, posting six straight bogeys. Muzyka posted a par on the 17th and finished out her round with a double on the par 3 18th.

Hocker didn't let the adverse conditions get to her, posting a career low 79 for a sixth place two-day total of 164. Hocker started off with a bogey on hole one, and but posted went posted two straight pars on two and three. She then carded a birdie on the par 3 4th. After posting a bogey on the par 4 5th and then stuck an chip shot close to convert a par on the par 4 6th, which started off a run of three straight pars. Hocker posted a bogey on nine, and was just one of 17 players in the field of 46 to post a bogey or better on the hole that had an average score of 7.46. She finished her front nine 2-over, but posted three straight bogeys to start off her back nine. Hocker then went two-over on her final six holes, including a par on the par 3 18th.

Kissner saved the best round of her career for last, posting a career-low 83 on the day for a two-day total of 169. Kissner started off her day with an impressive run of six straight pars before she round trouble on the par 4 7th, posting a triple. She then posted bogey-bogey over the eighth and ninth holes to finish her front nine at 5-over. She started her back nine off with a double on the par 4 10th. Kissner then went 2-over the next six holes before finishing off her round with two straight bogeys.

Maggie Arnold played as Alvernia's fifth. The freshman finished with a 101 on day two for a two-day total of 205. Arnold posted a par on the par 4 7th and had seven bogeys on her round.

Stevenson University earned the team title with a two-day total 634. Julia Kline earned the individual title with a two-day total of 155, including a second day score of 74. She beat out teammate Amanda Perez, who earned Rookie of the Year honors, in a two-hole playoff.

Alvernia closes out its 2018-19 campaign with six first place finishes, and did not finish worse than fourth place this year.
