Emily Gilbert and
Yupha Muzyka both shot an 8-over 81 to pace Alvernia to a fourth place finish after the first day of competition at the York College Spartan Invitational on Saturday, hosted by The Country Club of York.
Gilbert posted eight pars on her round and made a birdie on the par 5 14th to finish sixth overall on the day. The senior posted a 42 on her front nine, but improved by three strokes with a 39 on the back nine.
Muzyka posted ten pars on her round and also had a birdie on the par 5 14th to finish tied with Gilbert in sixth place. The freshman posted a 4-over 40 on the front nine, and dropped a stroke with a 41 on the back nine.
Sophomore
Briana Hocker finished eight strokes back of Gilbert and Muzyka with a round of 89. She posted five pars on her round, including back-to-back pars to start off her back nine.
Rounding out the counting scores for Alvernia was freshman
Maggie Arnold with a round of 100. Arnold posted two pars on her round.
Jordan Kissner posted Alvernia's fifth score of the afternoon, a 102. Kissner's round was highlighted by a birdie on her second hole of the day, the par 4 fourth.
Alvernia sits behind York College, Marymount (VA), and Gettysburg heading into the second day of action on Sunday.
