Emily Gilbert shot a 1-under 72 to better the Alvernia record by four strokes and earn low-medalist honors on the final day of the York College Spartan Invitational, hosted at The Country Club of York on Sunday.
Alvernia finished in fourth place with a two-day team score of 696.
Gilbert's round of 72 is her first career round under par. She broke the Alvernia school record by four strokes, a record that Gilbert set in the spring of 2017 at Stonewall's North Course. Gilbert has tied her previous record of 76 in her last two outings, shooting a 76 at The Ace Club and Alvernia's home course, LedgeRock Golf Club.
Gilbert started off her record-breaking round with a par on the par 4 5th, and then went put up back-to-back birdies on the par 3 6th and par 4 7th. She then posted par on the par 4 8th before putting up three straight birdies on the 9th, 10th, and 11th to go 5-under through seven holes. Gilber then posted six straight pars before her first blemish, a bogey on the par 4 18th. She went par-par on the 1st and 2nd holes before finishing her round with a double bogey-bogey finish.
Gilbert was tied for sixth place after day one, but she jumped the leaderboard on day two to finish the tournament in first place by four strokes.
Finishing in second for Alvernia and t-5th overall was freshman
Yupha Muzyka. Muzyka matched her first day score with a round of 81. Muzyka posted nine pars on her round, and had a birdie on the par 5 11th. She finished with a two-day total of 162.
In third for Alvernia and t-21st overall was sophomore
Briana Hocker. Hocker posted a second-day score of 92. Hocker posted six pars on her round, and finished with a two-day total of 181.
Rounding out the counting scores for Alvernia and finishing t-36th overall was freshman
Maggie Arnold. Arnold finished day two with a score of 101. She finished with three pars on her round, and had a birdie on the par 3 3rd. Arnold finished with a two-day total of 201.
Jordan Kissner finished t-40th overall. Kissner had a second day score of 100 and had two pars on her round. She finished with a two-day total of 202.
Alvernia returns to action on Tuesday at the Ursinus College Invitational at Stonewall Golf Club.
