Boreman, Alvernia Win Rain-Shortened Golden Oaks Shootout

Fleetwood, Pa. (Oct. 1, 2022) - Women's Golf junior McKylie Boreman earned low medalist honors and Alvernia won the Golden Oaks Shootout in a weather shortened Saturday at Golden Oaks Golf Club.

The Golden Wolves won the event with a two-day total of 469 to win the field of nine teams and edge York College by five strokes.

Boreman led the event going into Saturday after shooting a 72 on Friday.

After the course took on rain overnight from Friday to Saturday, continued rain throughout the round on Saturday halted play after most players had gone through ten holes. Scores were then reverted back to nine holes, but, with a shotgun start, not all athletes played the same nine. Both Boreman and Marin Dremock of Eastern finished at +4 over the 27 holes, despite Boreman shooting a lower total of 112 to Dremock's 114. So, the tournament reverted to a match of card of Friday's back nine in which Boreman shot a 36 to Dremock's 38.

Boreman played holes 11-1 and started with a par on the par 5 11th hole. She went on to post seven pars during her nine holes on Saturday.

Yupha Muzyka and Katie Lapinsky finished second for Alvernia and t-5th overall with +10 finishes over 27 holes.

Muzyka played holes 12-2 and had six pars over that span. Lapinsky played holes 11-1 on Saturday and started with a birdie on 11 and then went 2-under on her final three holes. Lapinsky finished the 27 holes with seven birdies.

Rylee Stenzel finished t-10th overall at +15.  She went even on Saturday with a birdie and seven par - including pars on her final five holes.

Grace Spielman finished as Alvernia's fifth with a +29 performance.

"We had all five players firing on all cylinders in abnormally tough conditions," said Head Coach Tom O'Connell. "McKylie seems to always find her way into the final pairings and at the top of leaderboards. And, Rylee was rolling along comfortably on Saturday at even par [before the round was called]."

Alvernia is back in action today at Moselem Spring for the first day of the Kutztown Fall Invitational. The Golden Wolves will again be braving rainy and cool conditions.
